Recently, Indigenous Grade 12 students from schools in the River East area embarked on a meaningful project to create their own ribbon skirts and shirts to wear at the divisional powwow in May and at their graduation ceremonies. The journey began with an afternoon at Marshall Fabrics, where students carefully selected materials that reflected their personal vision. They then spent a day cutting, sewing, and bringing their designs to life, creating garments that celebrate culture, identity, and pride. This opportunity will continue to grow. At the end of October, Indigenous Grade 12 students from the high schools in Transcona will begin designing and creating their own ribbon skirts and shirts, carrying this tradition forward and preparing for important milestones in their school journey.
