SAFE SCHOOL PROTOCOLS

Lockdowns

Lockdowns are a response to situations that arise inside the school such as a dangerous intruder and are activated by the police or staff. During a lockdown, no one is allowed outside or inside the school, except for school personnel and law enforcement. Parents are informed of situations that required lockdown through a School Messenger notification and email; however, it’s important to recognize that these situations may be tied to active police investigations so information may be limited.

Hold-and-Secure

Hold-and-secure is a response to situations that arise outside the school and are activated by the police or staff. Situations that may warrant a hold-and-secure include police activity nearby the school, violent crimes in the area, environmental threats such as gas leaks, and suspicious individuals near the school. As with lockdowns, parents are informed of situations that required hold-and-secure through a School Messenger notification and email; however, information may be limited if the situation is connected to an active police investigation.

Further information is available about lockdowns and hold-and-secures under Section E — Support Services in Policies.

Monitored Access

Monitored access is a response to the presence of uninvited guests in the school and is activated by the principal. Exterior doors are locked with staff monitoring access in and out. Parents are informed by email at the discretion of the principal.

Remain in School

Students are required to remain in the school when there is a potential hazard in the immediate area. Parents are informed by email at the discretion of the principal.

Remain in Classroom

Students are required to remain in the classroom when there is a sensitive situation taking place in the school. Parents are informed by email at the discretion of the principal.
