This morning senior administration spent time with staff at transportation, maintenance, and our administration offices to smudge, learn, and honour the intent behind the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Recognizing truth and reconciliation is not only about learning history, but about being mindful of how that history continues to shape the experiences of Indigenous peoples today, and the need to continue our commitment to this important work.

All flags at RETSD schools and buildings will be flown at half-mast from sunrise to sunset today, to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30. Today will be a day of learning across the school division, providing staff and students with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the impacts of colonialism, the legacy of residential schools, and the ongoing systemic barriers faced by Indigenous Peoples.

The Canadian Centre for Child Protection (C3P) is offering six free virtual webinars for parents and caregivers on Parenting in the Online World. During the sessions, C3P will provide insights into concerning trends seen through operations of Cybertip.ca – Canada’s tip line to report the online sexual exploitation of children and provide considerations and resources for talking with children and youth about online safety.
