Last night, Valley Gardens Community Connections welcomed Indigenous artist Frederick Spence—also known by his spirit name, Thunder Bear—into the school for a soapstone carving workshop. Students and parents/caregivers had the opportunity to create their own unique piece of soapstone art. Some participants knew what they wanted to carve while others let the stone guide them. Thank you, Thunder Bear, for introducing participants to this ancient traditional art, which remains an important cultural expression for Indigenous peoples.

Students from across our division have been learning the importance of recognizing Red Dress Day with different teachings and activities including a bannock sale with all funds being donated to the Moose Hide campaign, and dresses made from hearts that students coloured and included the name of a female who is important to them. #RedDressDay

Shoutout to Nathan Udoh, a 2020 Graduate of Collège Miles Macdonell Collegiate who was drafted in the 3rd round by the Montreal Alouettes in the recent CFL draft. Also, congrats to Jack Jaworski, current Grade 11 student at Murdoch MacKay Collegiate, who was named to the CFC TSN prospects game that brings the top 73 Canadian high school prospects to train and compete.
