Brianne Goertzen works as a Political Communications Officer with the Public Service Alliance of Canada and is a strong advocate for robust public services and programming. Previously, she worked as the Provincial Director with the Manitoba Health Coalition and Manitoba Organizer with the Canadian Federation of Students, where she advocated for accessible, affordable, and high-quality post-secondary education.

First elected as an RETSD trustee in a byelection in June 2016, she is thrilled to be an advocate for the over 18,000 K–12 students in the division. Brianne believes that the success of our children is dependent on an education system that creates a strong foundation. And that foundation is built by providing the very best public education possible.

Brianne holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a concentration in Criminology and a Master of Arts in Sociology. Her academic work focused on public policy development and analysis. She believes her education and experience can help the division build on what it has already accomplished, and feels it is her civic responsibility to give back to the community where she and her family have made their home.

Brianne is a dedicated volunteer, serving on several community boards. She loves working in collaboration with her fellow trustees toward their common goal of an exceptional public education system that is not only fiscally responsible but fulfils its duty to prepare students for the future.

Brianne holds communication with her constituents as a top priority in her capacity as trustee. She believes effective communication with them and being responsive to their needs, as they relate to the division, is imperative. The community must be invited to give input and be kept informed of board decisions.

Integrity, honesty, and respect are Brianne’s guiding principles. She says it is of utmost importance for a trustee to stand behind their decisions, communicate openly and honestly with their constituents and the employees of RETSD, and treat people with respect. Brianne says she wants to make a difference in people’s lives and believes being at the board table is a meaningful and fulfilling way to do that.
