CRISIS RESPONSE

In RETSD, we know that learning and well-being are fostered in safe, caring, and respectful environments. All threats and high-risk or worrisome behaviours are taken seriously.

RETSD schools are all equipped with emergency response plans that detail how to handle various types of crises and safety issues. The school team assesses all potential safety concerns and crises and makes an informed judgement on the level of risk posed to students and staff. Proactive intervention strategies are used to support and protect students, and to promote safe and caring school environments for everyone. Our Code of Conduct outlines some of these strategies, which may include formal assessments by qualified professionals on the Student Services team, such as school clinicians.

In the wake of a serious incident, additional supports are deployed to the school as necessary, including counselling and psychological supports, for all students who may need them.

When there is a worrisome or concerning incident or behaviour, school staff work in conjunction with Winnipeg Police Service, Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning, and other community agencies as appropriate.

If you or your child have concerns about your child's safety or the safety of a peer or the broader school community, please reach out to the school principal. Likewise, if you have questions regarding supports or responses to a serious incident, the school principal is available for a discussion.
