An updated rendering will be posted once finalized.

Our Board of Trustees advocates for new schools and resources to meet the growth of communities within the River East Transcona School Division. Last year, in partnership with the Province of Manitoba, we announced that a new school is being built in the Devonshire area of Transcona to accommodate unprecedented enrolment growth due to new housing developments.

The new school is more than just a new building; it’s a heart for a growing community. The Government’s original announcement was to create space for 650 students, but knowing the community is still expanding, the RETSD Board of Trustees advocated for a larger school. We’re happy to announce that 800 students will now call the school home. As a result, all of the students currently being transported out of the neighbourhood will be able to return to their community to discover their talents, form friendships, and make memories. The school will also have 134 spaces for infants, preschoolers and school-aged children.

We are grateful to the Province of Manitoba, including Premier Wab Kinew and the Honourable Tracy Schmidt, minister of education and early childhood learning, for partnering with the River East Transcona School Division to meet the infrastructure needs of our growing school community.

Naming the New School

In partnership with the Province of Manitoba, RETSD is building a new Kindergarten to Grade 8 school in the Devonshire area of Transcona.

As construction begins, we are inviting members of the community to become part of Transcona history by helping to come up with an original name for the new school.

The Board of Trustees has formed a Naming Ad-Hoc Committee that is tasked with reviewing submissions and making a recommendation to the Board based on Policy FFA-R1.

Names may be based on:

Neighbourhood or geographical area where the school is located.

A name of a historical or cultural significance to the community.

A name reflecting the unique program focus in the school.

The name of an individual from the community who has made an outstanding contribution to education, community life, or society. Names of individuals should only be used posthumously (must be deceased for at least 10 years).

Names that will not be considered:

Those that are considered discriminatory, offensive, or inconsistent with divisional values.

Duplicate names within the division or neighbouring divisions.

Commercial references.
