Special Programs
Music Education
From kindergarten to Grade 3, music provides multi-activity songs and singing games to establish a beat, develop motor skills, explore dramatic play, experience instrument playing individually and in an ensemble.
The program for grades 4-5 provides a wider variety of opportunities, combining recorder playing, Orff instruments in meaningful class projects and performances, singing, movement and listening. Students participate in many experiences throughout the year to help them develop an appreciation of music making. Students have opportunities to perform in class and choir groupings and participate in music festivals.
Physical Education
Physical education at Maple Leaf School uses many activities to develop a physically active lifestyle, which will enhance your child’s quality of life. An outdoor and gymnasium based program is offered. Students should dress appropriately to participate indoors or outdoors dependent upon the weather. Grades 1-5 students are expected to wear a suitable t-shirt with shorts or sweat pants and non-marking gym shoes.
Please send a note if your child is unable to participate in physical education.
Students are strongly encouraged to participate in the intramural program. As well, the school participates in all of the divisional sports activities each year.
Resource
Resource teachers are available to provide assistance to students who have learning needs not being met by regular programming. The resource teachers consult and plan with and for teachers and para educators.
If you are concerned about your child’s progress, you may request the assistance of a resource teacher. This request should be made through the classroom teachers or the principal.
