Nutrition

Philosophy:

Salisbury Morse Place School, together with home and the community, encourages healthy lifestyle choices.

We have chosen to promote nutritious food choices in our school and community.

Nutrition at ÉSMP

At École Salisbury Morse Place School, staff partner with parents in promoting healthy eating and active living.  We reference divisional policy EFBA.  We teach students the principles of healthy eating through the Health program. Every effort will be made to make SMP a nut-free school. Food selections must omit foods outlined in RETSD Regulation JLCG-R2 Anaphylaxis Avoidance Strategies. ÉSMP staff and students will refrain from bringing peanuts, peanut butter, peanut oil, nuts, or products containing them into our school building.

Some examples of how we promote healthy eating at ÉSMP include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing a free breakfast program before school to all students in grades K-8 a minimum of three times/week
  • Making menu decisions for the SMP breakfast program based on Canada’s Food Guide
  • Ensuring fundraising in the school does not rely solely on the sale of non-nutritious food
