Physical Education

Physical education is compulsory for all students from grades 5 to 8. The program is based primarily on participation and general health concepts in order to answer the physical and socio-emotional needs of our students. Any student unable to participate in physical education due to medical reasons must have a parent's note or medical certificate stating the reasons for non-participation.

Proper attire consists of running shoes, shorts or sweatpants and a change of t-shirt. Please note that for hygienic reasons, students are required to have separate physical education clothing on days when they are already wearing shorts and t-shirt to school. Expectations will be explained in greater detail at the beginning of the school year. Please note that physical pducation grades are based on attendance, participation, attitude and effort and not athletic ability.

An outdoor education program exists as an option to industrial arts for our Grade 8 students. Students follow the course for half the year and attend industrial arts for the other half. Registration for outdoor education takes place in June for Grade 7 and in January for Grade 8. As the name suggests, most of the class time for this course takes place outside, therefore students are asked to dress appropriately for the weather. Assessment and evaluation of the outdoor education course is similar to that of the regular physical education course.

Please note:  Any money, jewelry, or other valuables should be left at home on phys. ed. days. They should never be left in the change rooms. The school does not take responsibility for lost or stolen articles.
