Art Program

Valley Gardens Art Program

In grades 6, 7, & 8 students will experience Visual Arts.

The overall goal of the Visual Arts program is to continue to develop the student as a “young artist.” We will work within four main areas to further their development.

Developing their art “toolbox”

Students will be given opportunities to develop their understanding of the elements of art and principles of design. Through the students’ projects they will demonstrate their understanding of the elements and principles.

Expressing their thoughts and ideas creatively

Through individual and collaborative group projects, students will generate, develop and represent creative original works of art.

Understanding the “who, where, when and why” of art

Students will study the roles the visual arts have played throughout history and their impact on culture and society.

Developing their art appreciation skills

Students will view and respond to various works of art created by both themselves as well as others
