PARENTS & COMMUNITY
Parental/guardian and community involvement in our school is important to us.
We encourage parents/guardians to become involved in our parent advisory council (PAC). It's an excellent way to stay in touch with what is happening in your child's school, and to have a voice concerning such things as cultural and extracurricular activities, behaviour management, school budgets and plans, and fundraising activities. Please see our Parent Association link for more information.
Parent and non-parent volunteers can also be important helpers in classrooms or assisting with special events or projects, or coaching. If you're interested in volunteering at our school, please contact us.
Here are some topics with important information to remember during the school year:
École Neil Campbell School Lunch Program:
Please note: Registrations for the lunch program for the 2025/2026 school year are overdue.
Please submit your registration forms along with applicable payment as soon as possible if you have not already done so. Registration packages were emailed out on May 5, 2025. If you require a paper copy, please contact the school office to have one sent home with your child. Monthly payments are due on the first of each month.
Are you retired, a stay-at-home parent, or someone who works shift work? Neil Campbell Lunch Program is looking for full-time supervisors to oversee our kids during the lunch hour. Lunch supervision is a fun and rewarding experience, and a great way to get to know our school community! This position pays $20/shift. If you're interested, please email nclunchprogram@gmail.com to sign up today!
Please remember to send your child with a water bottle, forks and/or spoons for their lunch. The lunch program and the school office do not provide cutlery/cups to students.
Weather reminders:
Chilly, snowy weather is here! Please send your child(ren) with weather appropriate outerwear, so they will be prepared no matter what the weather happens to be. Many items look similar, so please make sure all belongings are labelled to avoid confusion or misplaced items.
Mittens, toques, warm jackets, snow pants, and boots will help keep the chill off while students enjoy their time outside. Although we regularly remind students to stay out of the water or melty snow, often socks and pants get wet during recess times. It is a good idea to have an extra set of mittens and clothes (shirt, pants, socks, underwear) in your child’s backpack in case clothing gets wet during the school day.
For up-to-date weather information during all our seasons, use this link: Environment Canada Weather. You can also find this link on our website in the top right corner, next to the date.
Absences, leaving early, or arriving late:
If your child(ren) will be absent from school, or you expect them to be late for attendance in the morning (8:55am) or after lunch (12:45pm), please contact the school office at 204-661-2848 anytime between 4:15pm and 8:30am to access a directory with two options. Select "1" to leave a message. You can also email the school at nc@retsd.mb.ca. Our office staff will phone parents of students who do not have an excused absence.
The end of the school day is a busy time! We make every effort to accommodate plans, but if you will be picking up your child(ren) before regular dismissal time at the end of the day, please call the school office before 3:00pm, to ensure we have enough time to notify your child(ren) and their teacher(s) of the change in plans.
Picking up & dropping of your child(ren):
Please report to the school office to check in and sign our sign-out sheet when you are dropping off or picking up your child(ren). Our office staff will make sure your child(ren) arrive at their classroom safely, and their attendance is marked. To minimize disturbances within the school, please do not walk your child(ren) to class.
Students who ride the school bus:
Please be sure to regularly check the Stopfinder app for all bussing information. You can learn more about the Stopfinder app and bussing transportation on the RETSD website under Transportation, or by clicking this link: Transportation. All bussing notifications will be posted at the top of the RETSD website; you can click the “learn more” button on the right side of the website to see the details.
Parking:
Please do not park or stop in the restricted parking zones around our school. These restricted zones are for the safety of our students, as well as our larger community. You can report parking/stopping infractions at: Report a parking violation (winnipeg.ca). This page shows that “No Stopping” along with other infractions can be enforced with a picture, and drivers can have a ticket mailed out to them without even knowing they have incurred a ticket. Thank you for helping to create a safer environment around our school.
Sending medications to school:
Whenever medication is needed at school, a parent/guardian must sign the Authorization for the Administration of Prescribed Medication to Students form (available at the school office). Non-prescribed, over-the-counter medication will not be administered by school personnel and should not be sent with your child(ren) to school. If your child(ren) needs to take a prescribed medication during school hours, the medication must be delivered to the school office in a container that has a label from the pharmacy which has the dispensing instructions noted on it. Please follow this link on administering medications for more information.
For those families with severe allergies requiring an EpiPen for medication, please click on this link Homepage | Epipen.ca for more information about how to obtain a free waist pack and other resources.
