Breakfast Program
The Purpose
The purpose of the Hampstead School Breakfast Program is to provide breakfast to all “hungry” students in kindergarten through to grade 5. This program is a community treasure where children meet and eat together every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Children may be hungry for a variety of reasons, not necessarily only due to economic hardship. Skipping breakfast and inappropriate meal practices are common in Canada.
**Research has shown that hungry children do not learn as well as children that are well fed.
The Program
- Nutritious breakfast is served Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning when students arrive.
- Teachers are welcome to come and get food at any time during the day for any student.
- Adult volunteers, including parents, arrive before school begins to prepare and serve food.
- We strive to provide healthy and nutritious food choices for your children.
- There is no fee to participate.
The Parents
This program will be most effective and long-lasting if the parents of the Hampstead School children are able and willing to volunteer. Nutritious food programs are essential for all Canadian families and help to build caring communities. Please consider helping out, even once or twice a month if you can. It’s a wonderful opportunity to meet your child’s friends and would only take about an hour of your time in the morning.
