Health
River East Transcona School Division offers a variety of health education programs mandated by Manitoba Education, Citizenship and Youth, designed to address some specific needs and concerns that have been expressed by the community. The Manitoba Health Education curriculum aims to assist school-aged children to assume increasing personal responsibility for their own health and well-being.
The purpose of these programs is to assist students and parents by helping students acquire knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and values that will result in behaviour that contributes to the well-being of individuals, families and society.
Programs in the curriculum include: Family Life Education, Personal Safety, AIDS Education, and Drug and Alcohol Education.
The programs are developmental and age-appropriate. Even though there may be some review of important ideas and/or concepts each year, the program deals with new and different information at each grade level. Parental permission is required before a student is allowed to participate in each of these programs.
