Reading Recovery

John de Graff offers Reading Recovery. Reading Recovery is an early short-term intervention program for identified six year olds at risk in beginning reading and writing. The goal is to accelerate achievement levels for each child so he/she can function in a classroom at an average level upon leaving the program.

Resource

The role of the resource teacher at John de Graff School is to facilitate the creation of a community of learners within the school and the classroom; a community where students have opportunities to learn in a safe supportive and caring environment; an environment where students who have learning problems are given opportunities to succeed, where students strengths are recognized and weaknesses acknowledged and appropriate strategies taught to compensate for the areas of weakness. The resource teacher works in a consultative manner with the classroom teachers to plan for student success.

School Counsellor

The School Counsellor supports students with developing positive behaviours, problem solving, and friendships school wide.  Learning about empathy, kindness, tolerance, conscience, diversity, respect and fairness are also forefront in the school counsellors work at John de Graff.
