Lunch Program

The Bird's Hill Lunch Supervision Program (BHLSP) works in conjunction with Bird's Hill School to supervise all students during the lunch break between 12:15 p.m. and 1:10 p.m. The mandate of the program is to provide a safe school environment for all students over the lunch hour.

This program is funded by two components:

  1. Parent funded - those families whose children live less than 1.6 km from the school and those families who live outside the Bird's Hill School catchment area.
  2. Divisional funded - divisional funding provided for all bused students (Introduced September 4, 2007).

Students are to bring their own lunches and will eat in their respective classrooms.

Supervision is provided by paid supervisors hired by the committee.

The supervisors will monitor the children while they eat lunch in their classrooms, and supervise the playground during the outdoor lunch recess.

The BHLSP is a non-profit organization and all the money collected is used to pay the salaries of those hired to supervise during the lunch hour, any training required, including first aid and CPR, and any miscellaneous expenses related to the operation of the BHLSP. All of the funds from this program are managed in a separate bank account specifically for the BHLSP and are separate from PAC or Bird's Hill School.

BHLSP Committee

A committee was established on Nov 18, 2004 to oversee the operations of the lunch program. The committee consists of six parents with children in the lunch program based on a two-year commitment, two bused representatives as well as one lunch coordinator (hired by the committee), and two administrators (principal and vice-principal).

Committee expectations

Attendance at regular monthly meetings to review financial reporting, communication between lunch co-ordinator and administration, policy updates, and staffing issues.

Communication

The lunch program will address any issues pertaining to the operations of the lunch program either in writing or via communication with the current representatives. The Lunch Program Policies and new registration form are located under "Documents and Forms"
