Code of Conduct
Maple Leaf School upholds high expectations for student academic performance and behaviour. Maple Leaf School expects that students will be well behaved to maximize instructional time. Maple Leaf School uses a wide range of consequences to deal with inappropriate student behaviour. Consequences are immediate, fair, and show students that they have ownership of the problem.
Maple Leaf School adheres to the Code of Conduct document of the River East Transcona School Division and the Behaviour Expectations pamphlet, which are available from the school office.
Three ‘B’s of Behaviour at Maple Leaf School
One of the keys to developing a positive school climate and a supportive school culture is the inclusion of programs and skills that give the students the opportunity to become as successful as they can. A supportive environment can be enhanced through the development of communication skills, problem-solving strategies, and adult-child interactions that are positive, constructive, and developmental.
Safe behaviour is expected at all times to ensure the safety and well being of our students. Rules and guidelines in this area have been formulated to ensure that each child is kept safe from harm by self or others.
Schools are for learning. Parents and guardians have the right to expect that their children will receive an education at school. In order for this to happen, the children need to be ready to be students; they need to be willing to make an effort and be active participants in their own learning.
Successful and effective social citizenship is based upon respect. Parents and guardians have a right to expect that children will be treated with respect and consideration shown for their dignity. Children learn what they live; as teachers, therefore, we strive always to model for the children the kind of behaviour, attitudes, and language we expect from them.
