PHILOSOPHY OF THE MUSIC PROGRAM
The band program at John Henderson encourages personal growth within an ensemble setting. Students will learn to play their instruments to their highest ability and make music with their peers in a safe environment that supports creativity. Every musician is valued for his or her individual and unique contribution to the group as a whole. It is our goal to provide a safe, challenging, supportive, and positive learning experience for every student.
The concert bands at John Henderson consist of woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. Each grade level forms a single performing ensemble. The Grades 6, 7, and 8 concert bands meet three times per cycle.
The jazz band at John Henderson consists of saxophones (alto, tenor and baritone), trumpets, trombones, French horns, piano, guitar, bass guitar, and drum set. Entrance into the jazz band is by audition. Students must be registered for band in order to audition for the jazz band. The jazz band travels to Brandon, Manitoba in March each year to perform in the Brandon Jazz Festival. Rehearsals are on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:45 - 8:30 AM.
JOHN HENDERSON BAND PARENT ASSOCIATION
The John Henderson Music Association was formed in 1987 for the purpose of supporting and supplementing the music program. The association organizes fundraisers to help subsidize trips, clinicians, instruments, music, equipment, and scholarships.
