Weekly Summer Update—Manitoba Education FAQ

back-to-school-1622789_1920.jpg

As we continue to work hard on the division plan that will be released Monday, August 17, 2020, we want to share with you some questions and answers from Manitoba Education

We also want to remind parents that it is important to plan now for keeping your student home when ill. We all need to pull together to keep our schools healthy and according to Public Health, one of the best ways we can do that is by staying home when sick.

The province announced their return to school plan for Manitoba last week.

Schools in RETSD are planning for a safe return to learning for all students and staff.

We know that families have many questions and concerns regarding the start of school.

Details on our divisional plan will be available and posted on the divisional web page,

www.retsd.mb.ca, as well as our Facebook and Twitter pages in the middle of the month.

Schools will communicate with families regarding specific school-based details before the start of school.

Reopening image.JPG

Today, July 30, 2020,  the province announced their return to school plan for Manitoba. Details of the provincial announcement can be found here: Welcoming Our Students Back: Restoring Safe Schools

We are looking forward to welcoming our students back to the classroom on Tuesday, September 8 and are continuing to plan and prepare for everyone's safe return. The health and well being of our students and staff is our priority and in light of the recent provincial announcement, we will be sharing more information so parents can plan and talk with their children about going back to school.

RETSD has been working diligently since the middle of June in preparation of the recent provincial announcement and we will be sharing more information with the community in the very near future. Please continue to watch the website as we will continue to share pertinent information throughout the summer.

As part of our local planning, we want to thank all the members of the community who participated in our Thoughtexchange as well as those who completed the transportation survey. Your feedback has helped to inform our local planning.

We know you have questions and we will do our best to provide answers as we all prepare for the new school year.

Weekly Summer Update—Schedules & Transportation

As we await news from the province and Dr. Brent Roussin regarding school reopening plans, we are currently finalizing our comprehensive plans for the following three scenarios:

  1. In-class learning resumes for all with near normal conditions
  2. In-class learning resumes with additional public health measures
  3. Remote learning from home with limited use of school facilities

Once the province announces the school reopening plan on August 1, RETSD schools will be reviewing schedules and timetables to best meet the safety and learning needs of students. As always, we will follow the recommendations and guidelines given by the province with safety as our priority.

Please note that any schedules that are currently in existence are tentative and subject to change. Final schedules will not be released until later in August.

We also want to thank parents/guardians for their feedback in our recent transportation survey. We will keep the survey link open until July 26, 2020. If you a have one more students who normally ride the bus in RETSD, we encourage you to fill out the short survey by clicking here.

At this time, physical distancing is required on school buses, which will limit the number of riders. Once guidelines are confirmed, information will be shared with you. For the short term, parents are encouraged to transport their own children.

We know that it can be challenging to shift mindsets during times of such uncertainty. Our hope is that we can provide with some information on topics that might impact your family as you think ahead to school opening in the fall. Please continue to watch for our weekly updates on our website throughout the summer.
