Mentorship at Lunch (MUNCH)

The MUNCH program is a joint program between Ecole Margaret-Underhill and College Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau (CPET) which introduces early years students to a senior years mentor. The program provides the early years students with the opportunity to connect with a senior years student from their area to talk to, play games with and learn with during the lunch hour. The MUNCH program is run on Mondays at lunch time at Ecole Margaret-Underhill and is facilitated by division personnel. Division personnel along with CPET students plan games, arts and crafts and many more fun ideas and activities that help the students get to know each other. In preparation for the launch of the program, the senior years students participate in a series of training sessions that help them organize games, teach them role modeling skills and elaborate on the goals of the MUNCH program.

On the first day of the MUNCH program the groups are introduced and each student is assigned a mentor. While eating their lunch and a special snack, the new friends have an opportunity to learn a little bit about each other. Weekly sessions include a sharing circle and Aboriginal teachings that help to support the program's goals of caring and respect.
