Congratulations to Ryley Larway on being chosen to receive a Manitoba Excellence in Education Award from Manitoba Education and Training. Ms. Larway, who teaches at RETSD's McLeod Education Centre, was honoured for being an Outstanding New Educator.
"Ryley is an exceptionally outstanding new teacher!" said Candace Rea, director of adult and continuing education, who nominated Ms. Larway for the award. "She inspires and engages students, all while demonstrating the love of learning."
Ms. Larway first joined McLeod Education Centre in September 2019. Since then, she's always brought new ideas and enthusiasm to the school and an openness to learn from those more experienced.
Over the past 1.5 years at McLeod, she has taught four diverse senior high courses—career development, psychology, Canadian law, and applied business technologies—which have all been new to her professional practice.
"She has been extremely resourceful in connecting and collaborating within and out of division with teacher colleagues to ensure her students are receiving a top-notch educational experience," said Ms. Rea.
Ms. Larway's dedication to the profession extends beyond her encouraging influence in the classroom. She makes a positive impact on all students and staff at McLeod through volunteering her time with initiatives that add to the school culture. Her advocacy for Indigenous education, human rights, mental health programming, and celebrating cultural diversity is evident with the time she dedicates to McLeod students and extracurricular events and programs.
"Ryley lights a spark in students," said Ms. Rea. "She inspires her colleagues to stretch and strive and is making an impactful difference in the school community, one student at a time."
