On March 24, École Neil Campbell School was thrilled to have a virtual storytelling session with Lorie Thompson, an Anishinaabe knowledge keeper who grew up on her family's trap lines near Pine Creek. She is very knowledgeable about reading the land, cultural protocols and ceremonies, and contemporary movements for Indigenous social justice and reconciliation.
Lorie is a mother and grandmother who lives in Winnipeg and Ojibwe is her first language. She shared traditional stories with our students and explained that oral story telling is the only way to keep the Ojibwe history and culture alive. Students had many questions to ask and were very engaged in their learning.
