Congratulations to Calvin Reimer, a Grade 12 student at River East Collegiate, on being selected by Big Brothers Big Sisters Canada as the only Manitoba recipient of the Ted Rogers Scholarship! On June 13, the director and regional director for the organization dropped by REC to surprise Calvin with the $10,000 scholarship, and his family were on hand to witness it.
Calvin has demonstrated outstanding academic ability, as well as leadership and athletic skills. He's been involved in track, badminton, volleyball, basketball, cross-country, Youth Alpha Club, the music program, and the Advanced Placement academic program.
He also plays baseball in the community, is part of the Winnipeg Optimist Athletics Club, and recently received lifeguard certification. He has achieved a 93–94% average and demonstrates a love of learning. He volunteers for Big Brothers of Winnipeg, and with the Kidzone program and spring break and summer camps at his church.
"Calvin is an exceptional young man who brings his A+ game with him each day," says REC principal Diana Posthumus. "He'll have an impact in the future!"
