Omar Alkassab, a Grade 12 student at Miles Macdonell Collegiate, was one of only six Winnipeg students selected to speak at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights on April 10, as part of a citywide student exhibit called, "The 180: Turning Injustice Toward Justice." He spoke about his experiences in Syria and his journey to Canada.
This honour came about due to Omar's work in his Global Issues 40S course with Miles Mac teacher Kara Wickstrom Street—specifically, as the result of a presentation he made to the class, along with his Take Action project to raise money for an orphanage in Syria.
Omar was also be interviewed by Marcy Markusa on CBC Radio last week.
