On January 24, the RETSD English-Ukrainian Bilingual Program held their annual Koliada celebration at Chief Peguis Junior High.
Students—dressed in their Ukrainian cultural clothing—danced, sang traditional carols, and played the vertep (a portable puppet theatre), piano, guitar, harmonica, and tsymbaly. Then, everyone enjoyed a meal together.
In Ukraine, the tradition of Koliada involves groups of young Ukrainians going from home to home singing koliadki (carols) in celebration of Ukrainian Christmas.
