Despite blizzardy conditions, we had a terrific turnout for our #YellowIsForHello event to discuss mental health, held at Kildonan-East Collegiate on January 23.
Guest speaker Sam Fiorella said he was really impressed by the efforts made by our division and our Mental Health Team to address this important topic and to erase the stigma surrounding it. Mr. Fiorella is co-founder of The Friendship Bench, a not-for-profit organization behind the #YellowIsForHello hashtag and the bright yellow benches that link students to mental health resources.
He was in Winnipeg to launch the #YellowIsForHello campaign in River East Transcona high schools. We're the first school division in Winnipeg to get the yellow benches in all of our high schools. Many thanks to those who attended to get strategies to build their children's and student's resiliency and positive mental health.
