École Margaret-Underhill kicked off I Love to Read (or J'aime Lire) Month with the talented Don Amero.
This year, the school's theme for I Love to Read is Indigenous storytelling, and Mr. Amero told stories to the students through his songs. Fun fact: he is not only an award-winning local singer/songwriter, but also the parent of a student at École Margaret-Underhill.
Mr. Amero was born and raised in Winnipeg and is Métis of Cree and Scottish descent. He has won many awards over the years at the Indigenous Music Awards, the Native American Music Awards, the Western Canadian Music Awards, the Canadian Folk Music Awards, and the Manitoba Country Music Awards, and has been nominated for some Juno Awards, as well.
